Win Butler and Matt Bonner Ride A Scooter in New Orleans
Arcade Fire's Win Butler and San Antonio Spurs forward Matt Bonner tooled around in a scooter during All-Star Weekend in New Orleans. Butler, who is 6'4", chauffeured the 6'10" forward around, but not before taking this wonderful picture. Butler was in town to DJ Bonner's party on Saturday night, which featured a reunion set from the Walkmen. The pairing may seem like an odd one, but the connections are certainly there. Bonner, who spent three years playing for the Toronto Raptors right around the time Arcade Fire was forming five hours away in Montreal, is a self-proclaimed music fan who longs for the days of records on vinyl and hates the music in NBA arenas.
Butler played varsity basketball in high school before becoming a musician, and still does between shows. It was reported that Arcade Fire and Pearl Jam (also a big basketball band) had some pretty intense pickup games during their time at the Big Day Out Festival in Australia. The Arcade Fire frontman also participated in the "Rock the Court" benefit for charity in Toronto which also included Bonner, fellow Arcade Fire member (and brother) Will Butler, Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament and many others. Butler defeated Bonner in the three point contest, the latter of whom is a 42% career three point shooter in the NBA. Watch the two talk about their intense competition below.
