Tour Diary: Tedeschi Trucks Band’s Wheels of Soul Tour

November 10, 2016

Tedeschi Trucks Band ramped up their Wheels of Soul tour for another highly collaborative summer. Los Lobos and North Mississippi Allstars joined the 2016 edition of the caravan, which crossed the nation from early July into August. As these photos from TTB’s Susan Tedeschi and Elizabeth Lea suggest, it was quite the (extended) family vacation with Susan and Derek’s daughter, Sophia, and Derek’s parents, Chris and Debbie, participating in the action, along with the other TTB members: Kofi Burbridge, Tyler Greenwell, J. J. Johnson, Mike Mattison, Mark Rivers, Kebbi Williams, Tim Lefebvre, Ephraim Owens and Alecia Chakour.

Lea: Mark, Mike and Alecia at Red Rocks—it’s the greatest treat playing with this angelic section every night.

Lea: Side-stage view of Sue, Cesar [Rosas, Los Lobos] and Derek killin’ “The Sky Is Crying” at Red Rocks—what an unforgettable evening!

Tedeschi: Sophia putting Tim’s hair in a bun for the show in Tulsa, Okla.— Sophia was Tim’s hair stylist for the summer tour.

Tedeschi: Derek and Col. Bruce Hampton backstage in Alpharetta, Ga.

Lea: Pre-gig rehearsals are always a blast!

Tedeschi: Derek and Charlie hanging out backstage before the Cincinnati show.

Tedeschi: Wayne Forte, our agent, with Chuck Morris, our Red Rocks promoter, and myself on stage at Red Rocks after soundcheck.

Tedeschi: Falcon [Tyler Greenwell] and J.J. outside the hotel in Ohio— these two are in charge of cooking the meat and starting the tailgating

Tedeschi: Mike cooking some hot dogs and Falcon keeping up with the cooking and cleaning while talking with Chris Trucks— tailgating outside the hotel in Ohio with Old Red, one of our band buses, in the background.

Tedeschi: Mark, Alecia and Ephraim at soundcheck in Salt Lake City, with Chris Bedry—one of our fantastic crew members—in the background.

Tedeschi: Debbie Trucks and Cody Dickinson from North Mississippi Allstars tailgating in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

Tedeschi: Derek, [studio engineer] Bobby Tis, [guitar technician] Ryan Murphy and Kofi checking out a guitar amp at soundcheck in Salt Lake City.
