Song Premiere: Southern Avenue “Don’t Give Up”

On February 24 Stax will release the self-titled debut from Memphis quintet Southern Avenue. The group features church-bred sisters Tierinii (vocals) and Tikyra Jackson (drums), Israeli-born blues guitar acolyte Ori Naftaly, jazz-infused bass player Daniel McKee; and keyboardist Jeremy Powell, a Stax music academy alum. Southern Avenue is the first Memphis band signed to the legendary label since the 1970s.
Today we premiere “Don’t Give Up” from the forthcoming record. Naftaly tells Relix, “Life brings ups and downs. In those hard times you have to remind yourself to keep going. “Don’t Give Up” is an anthem of self empowerment. If the song helps just one person, it’s a hit in our book.”
