Founded in 2004, the progressive rock band formerly known as “What About Frank?” changed its name in 2006 to “The Parlor Mob” because they wanted, according to drummer Sam Bey in a New York Times interview, to “…have a name that’s less hokey and more representative of our music.” Their May 2008 debut, And You Were a Crow (Roadrunner Records) is a rock ‘n’ roll showcase and the farthest thing from hokey. Elaborate guitar riffs and the sensuous croon of lead vocalist Mark Melicia are highlighted in the catchy, grassroots appeal of the album’s last track, “Can’t Keep No Good Boy Down.”
