Legendary touring outfit and jamband godfathers Widespread
Panic will be honored at the 5th Annual Billboard Touring Conference and Awards
on November 19 and 20 at New York City’s
Roosevelt Hotel. Panic is due to receive
the inaugural Road Warrior Award, an honor specially conceived by Billboard to
recognize the band's commitment to touring year after year and its dedication to
the art of live performance.
For the second year in a row, Panic will take the stage
during the Billboard Conference to honor music industry legend Bill Graham and
The Bill Graham Memorial Foundation.
The band will play a special show at The Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza
to benefit the Foundation which is dedicated to the preservation of Graham’s
heritage and work as a pioneering rock impresario and activist. Since its inception in January 2008, the
Foundation has given grants totaling almost 2 million dollars in the areas of
music and arts education, social work, environmental protection and spiritual and
compassionate projects.
2008 has been an award-laden year for Panic, which was recently
been inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame in Macon with fellow Georgians Dottie Rambo and
Ludacris. All the accolades won’t slow
the band down, however; Panic will continue to tour up to and
after their appearance at the Billboard Conference, including their traditional
two-night Halloween stand at the New Orleans Lakefront Arena on October 31 and
November 1 and New Year’s at Denver’s Pepsi Center
on December 31and January 1.
