Athens, GA-based trio The Whigs have entered Los Angeles' Sunset Sound
Studios to begin work on their debut album for ATO Records. The rising southern
indie-rock group first appeared in Relix earlier this year and were recently
showcased in Bonnaroo's 'troo Music Lounge.
The Whigs first made waves after self-releasing the EP Give 'Em All A Big Fat Lip, which was produced by Rob
Schnapf (Beck, Elliot Smith, Guided By Voices). Despite being
produced on a college budget, including recording equipment the
band bought and later sold on eBay, the disc helped the band
attract a national fanbase and earn a spot at CMJ. Most of the new material featured
on the group's new album was written on the road and in between tours,
giving The Whigs the chance to develop the new songs
naturally. As of press time, the group's new album is due out in early 2008.
The Whigs will take a break from the studio to test out its newest batch of
songs at Chattanooga, TN's
Ross' Landing Park this Saturday.
