Relix Recording artist the John Popper Project will open its
spring tour tomorrow at Boulder,
CO’s Fox Theatre. The groove-heavy quartet, which features Popper, DJ Logic,
Blues Traveler bassist Tad Kinchla, and Mosaic drummer Marcus Bleecker, will remain
in Colorado for the rest of the month, making stops at Fort Collins’s Aggie Theatre (3/23), Denver’s Bluebird
Theatre (3/24), Crested Butter’s Calypso (3/28), Telluride’s Sheridan Opera
House (3/29-30), Copper Mountain’s Grand Hall (3/31), and Aspen’s Belly-Up
(4/1). The quartet has also confirmed a 1 PM performance on March 31 as part of
Copper Mountain’s ninth annual Sunsation. Today,
Popper made his first public appearance since his recent arrest at an in-store
promotional gig held at Denver’s
Twist and Shout Records. On March 7, state patrol officers pulled over a black
Mercedes SUV carrying the harmonica player after clocking the vehicle at
111mph. Inside, the officers found a small arsenal of weapons, including four
rifles, nine handguns and a switchblade knife stashed in numerous hidden
compartments. A police dog also found a small amount of marijuana, while
officers located a Taser and night-vision goggles. According to the Associated
Press, the vehicle also had flashing emergency headlights, a siren and a public
address system, which “Popper indicated to troopers that he had installed these
items in his vehicle because (in the event of a natural disaster) he didn't
want to be left behind.” Popper, an outspoken libertarian, is also a gun collector.
As of press time, the John Popper Project’s only additional confirmed
dates in an August 4 appearance at Lima, OH’s Square Fair Festival, though Blues Traveler will open
its spring tour April 12 at Las Vegas’
The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel. The John Popper Project featuring DJ Logic’s
self-titled debut is now available on Relix Records.
