While many traveling festival have been repositioned as
destination events over the years, Vans Warped Tour retains its original
format. The punk and hardcore tour’s longstanding success and future plans will
be discussed in the next installment of the Guitar Center Sessions. The discussion
will take place at the Hollywood,
CA Guitar Center on June 12, featuring
Vans Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman, Epitaph Records founder Brett Gurewitz
(also of the band Bad Religion), Kung Fu Records founder Joe Escalante, Modlife
founder Tom DeLonge, Story of the Year’s Philip Sneed and Say Anything’s Max
Bemis. The event will be moderated by Alternative
Press editor-in-chief Jason Pettigrew, who has been covering Vans Warped
Tour since its inception in 1995.
Designed to “provide informative, provocative conversation
and hands-on tutorials,” the Guitar Center Sessions “serves as an incubator for
musicians, providing them an opportunity to network with their peers and gain
career-fostering advice from their heroes in an intimate setting.” The June 12
Sessions will be conversational, as guests discuss their writing process,
recording techniques, marketing, distribution, touring and methods for monetizing
music.
The Vans Warped Tour will kick off on June 20 at Pomona, CA’s
Fairplex. Among this year’s most surprising additions is Matisyahu, who will join
the tour in Atlanta
(7/9), Orlando (7/10), Saint Petersburg (7/11) and Elkton, FL
(7/13).
