Promoter Bill Graham had always been the driving force behind the Grateful Dead’s New Year’s Eve shows. After Graham passed away in 1991, the band performed one final December 31 blow-out before retiring the day on their tour docket. This year, Dead Heads will be able to take a trip into the past on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, as the group’s forthcoming release, Live At The Cow Palace, New Years Eve, 1976 will be streamed in its entirety. The stream will begin on 12:01 AM PST on December 31 and close out on January 1 at 11:59 PM PST. During the 12/31/76 show, Graham appeared at midnight in a giant hour glass, as part of a performance that featured two “Drumz” segments in the second set, which opened with an atypical segued passage from “Sugar Magnolia” into “Eyes of the World,” “Wharf Rat” and then the first “Drumz.”
