The Blind Boys of Alabama will explore the music of the Big Easy on their new studio album, Down In New Orleans. One of the longest-running groups in the world, the Blind Boys had a comeback at the turn of the 21st Century after giving a series of rock numbers a gospel makeover. The group’s first album in three years will hit stores on January 29, 2008 on the Time Life Music label and finds the gospel legends backed by New Orleans session musicians like David Tarkanowsky (piano), Roland Guerin (bass) and Shannon Powell (drums). A number of high-profile New Orleans faces will also appear throughout the album, including Allen Toussaint, The Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the Hot 8 Brass Band. Down In New Orleans will also include a range of covers, including “Down by the Riverside,” “Uncloudy Day” and “I'll Fly Away,” among others. The group will perform at  Perth, UKs Perth Concert Hall tomorrow evening.
