The Bad Plus will switch things up on its new record, For All I Care. For the first time, the instrumental trio has added a singer, Wendy Lewis, into the mix, augmenting the core trio of Reid Anderson (bass), Ethan Iverson (piano) and David King (drums). The group equates the addition to when The John Coltrane quartet added Johnny Hartman and covered the “songs of the day.” Though the Bad Plus is known for its eclectic mix of covers,  For All I Care will focus exclusively on 20th century composers that the trio believes should be uttered in the same breath as Stravinsky and Ligetti.

Cover highlights include Nirvana’s “Lithium,” Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb,” Wilco’s “Radio Cure,” The Bee Gee’s “How Deep is Your Love” and the Flaming Lips’ “Feeling Yourself Disintegrate.” The trio will close 2008 with a short trip to Europe, as well as extended runs in both their hometown of Minneapolis and New York.
