“Most amps stop at 10.  Well, this one goes to 11!”  An unforgettable scene from ‘This is Spinal Tap’ that perfectly encapsulates what occurs at Fuji Rock’s generous spread held high in the mountains.  The eleventh annual festival is scheduled to take place from July 27-29 at Niigata, Japan’s Naeba Ski Resort.

Over five main stages, peripheral one’s and attached villages and the famed Palace of Wonder, a robust all-ages international commune is set again, rain or shine, as film, tents, backpacks, your favorite food and beverage vendors, NGO’s and more joyously coagulate together. This mountainous fantasy island in surround sound and vision unfailingly sustains ear-to-ear smiles of the Rourke and Tattoo kind.

Making it to Japan after 23 years, The Cure top off Friday after MUSE and Kings Of Leon sparking as locals Kemuri and PE’Z provide up tempos for happy feet to help you cover the miles and miles over the eclectic and sprawling grounds.  Triple-soul sure shots are to unload from The John Butler Trio, Money Mark and Stevie Salas Colorcode on White as Railroad Earth, Damien Rice, Yo La Tengo and Goma & Jungle Rhythm Section follow suit from Field Of Heaven.

Saturday coalesces Government Mule, Elena James and Hot Club of Cowtown, Lily Allen, FEIST, G. Love & Special Sauce, Dub Ainu Band, Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group and Boom Boom Satellites.  Providing optimum motion to this elevated ocean of humanity, !!! (chk chk chk), Beastie Boys and Iggy & The Stooges will wholly operate their funhouses for all.

From Green to Orange Court, Sunday’s hearty servings via The Chemical Brothers, Fishbone, Jonathan Richman, Marva Whitney and Osaka Monaurail, Peter Bjorn and John, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Vooredoms, Joss Stone, toe and The Shins complete these delicious days of operation.
