In
one of the biggest music press snafus in recent memory, a number of prominent
publications mistakenly reported today that Led Zeppelin would appear at the
seventh annual Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival this June. Since last fall,
rumors have circulated that the lauded classic-rock band would play a rare
stateside show at Bonnaroo, along with confirmed headliner Metallica. When
Bonnaroo’s publicists sent out the festival’s initial press release last night,
the Associated Press, the NME and the Chicago Sun Times each
misread all-girl cover band Lez Zeppelin as Led Zeppelin and ran stories
confirming the latter group’s appearance. Below is the header from
yesterday’s release:

Sun-Times reporter Jim DeRogatis said the following: “My esteemed Sun-Times
music editor, whose name shall go unmentioned here (you're welcome, Thomas), is
not the only music editor who made this mistake. How could this have happened?
The press release was misleading, to say the least.”
As
correctly reported by Relix.com yesterday, Pearl Jam, Metallica and Jack
Johnson will headline the multi-band event, which will feature marquee
appearances by Phil Lesh & Friends, Kayne West, B.B. King, My Morning
Jacket and Lez Zeppelin. Led Zeppelin vocalist Robert Plant will perform
at Bonnaroo with Alison Krauss.
