Last night, while in Hawaii for its rare opening spot for U2, Pearl Jam played a stealth show at the 300-person Waimea Valley Audubon Center. Part of the opening celebration for the Quiksilver Big Wave Invitational surfing competition, the intimate gig featured a variety of covers, including Neil Young’s "Rockin' in the Free World" (which boasted a guest spot by guitarist/surfer Kelly Slater). The quintet, who were featured on the cover of the August issue of Relix, are making the most of their trip to the expansion state. Yesterday, Vedder spoke at a panel as part of the surfing competition. Tonight, the group will perform at Honolulu's Blaisdell Center, where Hawaiian resident Jack Johnson is among list of potential guests. Eddie Vedder recently contributed a track  Johnson’s. On December 8 Pearl Jam will help U2 close its Vertigo Tour at the Aloha Stadium. U2's Bono recently performed a new version of Neil Young's "Rockin' in The Free World" with Pearl Jam in Melbourne, Australia, as part of a  protest concert held during last week's G-20 forums.
