Though rumors that Pearl Jam would headline Bonnaroo proved false, the alt-rock legends will headline Lollapalooza this August. The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that the quintet will top a bill which features over 130 bands. Pearl Jam's stint on the 1992 edition of Lollapalooza helped launch the group to international fame. While Pearl Jam has largely shied away from festival dates since nine fans perished during their performance at Denmark's Roskilde Festival in 2000, Eddie Vedder's Chicago roots likely helped lure the group. As of press time, Lollapalooza is Pearl Jam’s only US date, though the group will tour Europe in June. Eddie Vedder will also play Jack Johnson’s Kokua Festival in Honolulu, Hawaii April 21-22, 2007.Pearl Jam closed its 2006 tour with an opening spot for U2 on December 9.
