The
Police will return to North America for another
30 shows in May and July. According to a report first published on
Billboard.com, these shows, along with 15 previously announced European concerts
in June, will be the group’s final performances.
Since
reuniting last May, The Police have toured the world, hitting a dizzying array
of stadiums, arenas and festivals, including the 2007 edition of Bonnaroo. The
trio’s upcoming North American dates are expected to focus on the summer amphitheatre
circuit, with Elvis Costello & the Imposters supplying support duties.
These performances will mark The Police’s first
stab at playing amphitheatres, many of which did not hold rock-shows when
the group originally parted ways.
Billboard
is also reporting that the group’s tour, which will likely gross over $340
million, will be one of the top five highest-grossing tours of all time. The
group’s final run of shows is rumored to culminate with a performance at Wantagh, NY’s Jones Beach
in early-August.
