Uncle Earl, who were profiled as an “on the verge” band in Relix last
year, is a four-piece female roots-rock group. On March 13 the group
will release a new 16-track album, Waterloo, Tennessee, on Rounder Records. Produced by Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones, an accomplished producer in his own right, Waterloo, Tennessee touches
on a number of acoustic styles including folk, blues, and jug music.
The disc also features covers of material by Bob Dylan ("Wallflower")
and King Wilkie's Ted Pitney ("Last Goodbye"). The band also features
guest spots by Gillian Welch, Donna the Buffalo's Tara Nevins, and
Jones, who contributes bass, mandolin, piano, and wobbleboard. The
group will appear at Scotland’s The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall
tomorrow.
