The
Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that a new biopic is in the works
profiling the life of Jerry Garcia. The film is expected to focus on the
guitarist’s early years, including the formation of the Grateful Dead. Albert
Berger, Ron Yerxa and Eric Eisner have signed on as the film’s producers and
are currently searching for an actor to play the part of the young Garcia.
Though the film’s plot is still being hashed out, the biopic’s source
information will draw from Robert Greenfield’s oral history of Garcia, Dark Star, and will document the
guitarist’s stint in the military, as well as his early days in the Bay Area.
According to reports, Bob Weir will help
oversee the film’s soundtrack. Filming is expected to start in 2009.
