The Tom Tom Club's Chris Frantz and Tina Weymouth, who made their name as the
rhythm section in Talking Heads, will celebrate the holidays by releasing a
limited edition 7" vinyl and 4-track CD single titled Misteltunes. The disc's opening track, "Christmas in the
Club," is described as "a dance floor stomper with vocoder and sleigh
bells alternating between Chris' and Tina's vocals." In addition to Frantz
and Weymouth,
the song will feature Jamaican singer Mystic Bowie and turntablist Kid Ginseng.
The disc's second selection is the traditional "Il Est Ne'" ("He
is Born") sung in French by Weymouth.
According to a statement from the couple, Tom Tom Club "chose to press the
songs back-to-back on a funky-looking piece of vinyl" due to the current
popularity of '80s vinyl. The 4-track CD single includes extended and
instrumental versions of "Christmas in the Club." In 2003, Tom Tom
Club released its latest album, Live @
The Clubhouse.
Misteltunes will be released on
November 15 on La La Land Records, run by the Tom Tom Club's former
merchandising crew. The set will be available exclusively for pre-order at
www.tomtomclub.net . It will also be made available at select independent
record stores.
