Bob Dylan is steering clear of Minor League Baseball parks this summer. He is, however, maintaining a high profile tour schedule, including a performance at the Woodstock site he never visited in 1969 via the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on June 30th and an appearance this past Wednesday at Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. This latter show also is significant because backstage at the show, Dylan received the Montreal Jazz Festival Spirit Award from Founding President and Artistic Director and Co-Founder of the Festival, Alain Simard and André Ménard. The award itself which is in bronze was inspired by a self-portrait presented to the Festival by Miles Davis in 1988.
Dylan’s label has announced that it will honor him as well with a three-disc retrospective of his music entitled DYLAN to appear on October 1. In addition to the CD set, which will offer 51 tracks, Columbia Records also will release an 18 song Best Of edition. Meanwhile the label is soliciting “Dylan stories” from fans along photos that “capture the music, lyrics or influence of Bob Dylan,” via a site devoted to the upcoming releases at Dylan07.com.
