Founding Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann has confirmed
a handful of shows scheduled to take place in the coming days. Though Kreutzmann more or less retired from the music industry after Jerry Garcia’s death in 1995,
he has hit the road a few times in the past decade, usually with his longtime
bandmates as The Dead or The Other Ones. More recently, Kreutzmann has been
working with Allman Brothers Band bassist Oteil Burbridge and Max Creek guitarist Scott Murawski as KBM.
“Oteil and Scott are all about the music; it’s not about the
business,” Kreutzmann recently told Relix. “There are absolutely no egos in the
band. I’ve never felt so clean in my life. Nobody makes a mistake, nobody says
you should do it this way or that way, play slow or play faster, the music is
the controlling element, the music is the muse, as it should be.”
Last night, all three members of the Trio sat in with Trey
Anastasio at Providence, RI’s Lupo’s for a jam leading out of “First
Tube.” KBM will appear next at Ft. Lauderdale’s
Culture Room on October 24 and Live Oak, FL’s Magnolia Fest on October 25.
In
addition, Kreutzmann has confirmed a brief tour of his home state of Hawaii, scheduled to kick off at Kauai’s Kilohana
Plantation on October 29. The strange bedfellows will also make stops at both Honolulu’s Spirit Fest and Oahu’s
The Red Elephant on October 31 and Pa'ia’s Charley's on November 1.
