Melvins
A Senile Animal
Ipecac

Here’s what happened when the Melvins (singer/guitarist Buzz Osborne, a.k.a. King Buzzo and drummer Dale Crover) teamed up with drummer Coady Willis and bassist/singer Jared Warren, also known as Big Business. This near-perfect mix of two different bands is a continuous blast of mind-numbingly dueling percussion meshed succinctly with the quirky, melodic choruses and gnawing grooves the Melvins are known for. And somehow throughout the tuned-down sludge that envelops A Senile Animal, Osborne and Warren create blistering highs that are chaotically beautiful. The Melvins have been churning out peculiarly raucous and heady explorations with assorted bassists for many years, but with Big Business filling in, things get far more combustible. “Civilized Worm” and “You’ve Never Been Right” move with an intoxicating, incandescent and nervous kind of energy. Then again, the entire album will send you off buzzing.
