Recollection

Hybrid Recordings

Reid Genauer left Strangefolk years ago to attend graduate school where he not only earned an MBA, but found his voice both as a songwriter and as the leader of Assembly of Dust. The band’s first studio offering, Recollection is an ambling, organic collection that spotlights Genauer’s easy story-songs above the quartet’s airy mix of country, folk and rock. From the front-porch gait of “The Honest Hour” to the lazy funk of “Whistle Clock,” the band—Genauer, Nate Wilson, Adam Terrell, John Lecesse and Andrew Herrick—aligns granular descriptions with fitting soundtracks, enlivened by a production mix that breathes like the varied subjects of the tales that populate Recollection. While this isn’t the band’s first recorded offering—2005’s The Honest Hour secured its presence and nodded to the quintet’s promise—it is a cornerstone in a promising career built upon fine songs and unpretentious delivery.
