THE LONE HORSEMAN
In the past year Tyler Ramsey has gone from a bestkept- secret local musician to a national stage act. A stroke of good luck fell upon the multi-instrumentalist and singer/songwriter last summer when he was introduced to the recently relocated indie darlings Band of Horses, who made a move from Seattle to South Carolina. Ramsey hit it off with Horses lead singer Ben Bridwell and was asked to join the group on lead guitar. By the fall he was on the road with the band full-time, not only lending his electric ax prowess, but also opening each night with his own solo material, which blends mellow finger-picking folk and acoustic blues in the vein of John Fahey and Leo Kottke. Earlier this year he released the material on his solo debut, A Long Dream About Swimming Across the Sea, a delicate display of neomountain town Americana with Neil Young-worthy introspection. It’s all amounted to a quick turn in the spotlight, including a praise-heavy segment on NPR and a showcase in front of large crowd. “It felt reassuring to get such a good response from 2,600 people in New York City,” says Ramsey, referring to a gig last fall at Terminal 5. “This has all been a bit overwhelming but I’m loving it.” www.tylerramsey.com
