CHILDHOOD DREAMS
For years, Daniel Agust would lie in bed and stare into the dark, as words and melodies floated through his mind. “I just had this idea that’s been with me all these years,” the Icelander says. But unlike others who relegate such dreams to their minds’ dustbins, the former Gus Gus vocalist took action, setting up a small home studio and teaching himself the technical aspects necessary to create a CD. The result of his five years of work is the recently released ten-track Swallowed a Star, which presents gorgeously evocative stories told through haunting vocals (“I inhale the air / As someone who swallows / As someone who swallows / A star in a dream,” from the title track), rich orchestration, a hint of pop and subtle side effects. “The inspiration for this goes way back to when I was a child,” says Agust, 37. “This was my dream.” And now it’s the soundtrack to ours. www.daniel.is
