COOKIE MONSTERS
Jason NeSmith (a.k.a. Casper Fandango) has been using Casper & The Cookies to mix hislove of power-pop such as The Beatles and Lindsay Buckingham with his passion for postpunk(Minutemen, Pylon) since 1999. After a stint in breaking indie band Of Montreal,NeSmith brought his full attention back to Casper & The Cookies, eventually releasing2006’s The Optimist’s Club. With bassist Kay Stanton (NeSmith’s wife) taking a strongerrole creatively, the band succeeded in recording what NeSmith calls “a personal and anticynicalwhisper in an era of resonating doom.” With the modest success of The Optimist’s Club, a string of dates opening for Apples In Stereo and a growing reputation for wildly entertaining shows, Casper & The Cookies are poised to reach more ears than ever. So exactly what part of the record store can their growing legion of fans find them? “‘ROCK’ scrawled in blue Sharpie on a plastic divider taped to the wall just below a poster of last year’s Björk album,” says NeSmith. If you can’t find it there, check indie-pop. www.casperfandango.com
